I predict a Shake Up! Ricky Wilson stars in new Change4Life and Disney campaign to encourage children to ‘team up to shake up’ this summer

Following last year’s success, Change4Life with Disney are again inspiring families to get active with the launch of this summer’s new 10 Minute Shake Up campaign. Children can pick a Disney team, receive a free pack full of ideas for Disney-inspired activities and help their team to win to by doing as many 10 Minute Shake Ups as they can every day.

Supporting the campaign is Kaiser Chiefs lead singer and ‘The Voice’ judge Ricky Wilson, a keen runner and fitness enthusiast. Ricky has created his own 10 Minute Shake Up to help get kids active. From 9am on 2nd July, Ricky’s Shake Up will be beamed into schools across England, via www.vimeo.com/Change4Life, forming the country’s largest ever interactive PE lesson.

The 10 Minute Shake Up campaign aims to get children moving and doing as many 10 minute bursts of activity, inspired by Disney characters, as they can every day. Last summer, 292,823 signed up to the campaign and the nation’s kids were active for an extra 104 million minutes thanks to Change4Life and Disney.

Currently, just 21% of boys and 16% of girls aged five to 15 meet their recommended 60 minutes of activity each day.[i] A new evidence review by researchers from the University of Oxford and Loughborough University to coincide with the launch of the campaign reveals the positive impact that physical activity has on children’s social, psychological and physiological health.[ii] It also points to strong evidence that physical activity and sport have a positive impact on children’s social skills and self-esteem.

To kick off the campaign and celebrate today’s launch, Ricky will be surprising one lucky group of schoolchildren at Marion Richardson Primary School in Tower Hamlets, London, by doing his Shake Up in person with Year 4.

Ricky Wilson, comments:
“Since taking up a much more active lifestyle, the benefits that I’ve gained have been endless, it has helped with everything from singing to performing and even just getting out of bed or going down the shops. I’m supporting this summer’s Change4Life campaign, and have helped create my own Disney-inspired 10 Minute Shake Up game to help demonstrate the joys of being active and to ask parents to encourage their children to enjoy the many health and social advantages that come with doing the right amount of physical activity.”

GP and former Gladiator Amazon, Zoe Williams is also supporting the campaign and strongly believes in getting kids doing more exercise. She comments:
“60 minutes of exercise every day for children can sound like a lot, but when broken down into fun 10 minute activities it is a lot more manageable, and these can be a great way to bust boredom over six long weeks of summer holiday. Physical activity is incredibly important for keeping children happy and healthy now and in the future, and this summer is the perfect time for them to discover the joys of being active. From their heart to their brain, there are so many health benefits children can enjoy from physical activity.”

Marianthi O’Dwyer, Vice President and Head of Disney Healthy Living UK said:
“Following on from the success of last year’s campaign, we’re excited to be partnering with Change4Life for a brand new 10 Minute Shake Up. This year children will have the chance to join one of four Disney-themed teams, which we hope will inspire them to get even more active this summer.

Disney’s stories are experienced and enjoyed by children around the world, so we believe we can have a positive influence. Our partnership with Change4Life is part of Disney’s commitment to use our stories and characters to inspire and encourage life-long healthy behaviours in families.”
