Eye Q ‘Back to School’ Survey
Eye Q ‘Back to School’ survey reveals 40% of parents are supplementing children’s diets with fish oil supplements due to genuine concern over healthy eating habits
The Eye Q ‘Back to School’ Survey has revealed that parents are genuinely concerned about how diet affects their children’s performance at school with 40% of parents now supplementing their children’s diets with omega-3 and omega-6 oils which contain essential fatty acids proven to play an important role in the development of learning ability, memory and concentration.
According to the Eye Q ‘Back to School’ Survey almost two thirds of parents are taking an active role in their children’s eating habits and opting for a packed lunch for their children during the school year.
The survey also reveals that healthy food is clearly a priority for most parents with 90% of children taking fruit and 39% taking vegetables to school more than twice a week. The Eye Q ‘Back to School’ Survey also showed that despite parents’ efforts to create more nutritionally balanced lunch boxes almost two thirds believe they should be doing more to improve their children’s concentration and behaviour.
Of the 639 parents surveyed a shocking 58.2% of parents surveyed are not aware of the benefits of fish oils in growing children.
And it is not only children that benefit from omega-3 and omega-6 in their diets. Parents too could improve their memory and brain function as over one third (34%) have forgotten to pack their children’s sport kits and nearly one in five have forgotten non-uniform days and sent their child to school in the wrong clothes!
Results from three separate studies using Eye Q fish oil supplements have displayed significant results in improving concentration and behavior in school going children across all age groups. These studies also noted dramatic improvements in children who have reported ADHD symptoms, severe impulsivity as well as severe inattention.
The results of these Eye Q studies support other research which shows that fatty acid deficiencies may be a factor in the development of learning difficulties. The studies conducted were as follow;
The Greenfield Study examined a group of students aged between 12-15years of age in the U.K. Of these students, pre-trial assessments showed that:
a) 94% had moderate to severe ratings for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
b) The students also had an inattention scale rating of 94% and a ‘severe impulsivity’ rating of 89%
Following three months of taking Eye Q fish oil supplements, there were significant improvements in all areas of behaviour and concentration including:
a) Students with severe ratings for ADHD reduced to 28%
b) Cases of severe impulsivity and ‘severe inattention’ fell to just 17%
The Durham Schools Trial involved children aged between 6 -12 years from varying socio-economic backgrounds. The children were selected on the basis of a diagnosis of dyspraxia, many with accompanying conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia.
Of the 120 subjects, half took Eye Q supplements and half took a dummy supplement consisting of olive oil. The children were tested at the beginning of the study and again at three months for ADHD symptoms, coordination and short term memory.
a) A key result of the trial is that children taking Eye Q showed improvements in their ADHD symptoms to a degree similar to that seen after treatment with prescribed stimulant medication
b) Those taking Eye Q made highly significant improvements on 12 out of 13 behavioural scales, including the three diagnostic features of ADHD: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity
In a study of pre-school children in association with Sure Start, a UK government funded nationwide strategy aimed to help the disadvantaged;
a) Eye Q recorded a 100% success rate in improving the concentration levels in pre- school children who had problems with concentration and behavioural problems
b) Researchers also recorded improved language development in the pre-school children, with a number of two year olds increasing their vocabulary from 25 single words to speaking full sentences during the course of the study
