Green Chain Fun on Your Doorstep this Summer.

There are dozens of organised events, walks and talks happening on the South East London Green Chain, and what’s more most of them are free.   You could take in ArtPlay at the Dulwich Picture Gallery on Sunday 7 August, Knights and Princesses at Eltham Palace and Gardens from 7-9 August or many other events through the Summer.   For more detailed information about these activities and many, many others happening on the Green Chain open spaces and beyond, simply log onto www.greenchain.com and click onto “What’s On” button.

Whether it's a half mile stroll you fancy or a more vigorous exploration of the greener side of capital life, the Green Chain has something for you.  For the more energetic amongst us the Green Chain is just perfect. Whether it's a Sunday morning run, kicking a ball around with the kids or getting lost on an orienteering course, you can do it all.   Or, you can tread in royal footsteps on the moat bridge at Eltham Palace, pass through Shooters Hill and woods, once the hideout of Dick Turpin and his partners; take in the Jacobean splendour of Charlton House, or the ruins of Lesnes Abbey. Enjoy the tropical delights of Avery Hill's glass Winter Garden or hunt for dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park.  Then again, if it's modern history that interests you, why not visit the largest flood barrier in the world and learn how and why it was built.

The Green Chain Walk, linking more than 50 miles and 300 open spaces of woodland, commons, parks and recreation grounds forms one of London's most diverse, official long distance walks. It is steeped in history.   Anyone interested in doing a walk on the Green Chain can get hold of the set of route guides by calling 020 8921 5028. There are eleven weather proof colour maps with detailed route instructions, distances, times and background information on the history of the areas you're walking through.
