Patsy’s Chocolate…Make A Pig Of Yourself!
Chocolate. Doesn’t everyone love it? I know I do. I love the way it glides down your throat with that sweet feeling, and I’m not alone. I know of someone who loves it even more than me.
Patsy Swine was a greedy pig. All day long, she lay in her corner of the pigsty, feasting on as much chocolate as she could. White chocolate, dark, milk, any you could imagine but eating this sweet came at a price. Patsy grew larger than ever fitting into the pigsty became almost impossible.
That was it! Time for some real action! The big pig took one long look at her precious sweets and tipped them into the bin. No more chocolate…ever!
But it was no good. Patsy couldn’t stand it. “I can’t live without my sweets,” she sighed. Then off the to the shop she dashed to buy more chocolate. It caused quite a stir. No-one had ever seen a pig buying chocolate before.
Soon Patsy was back in her little corner chewing happily when the farmer’s daughter came to visit. “Good morning,” she beamed, bursting in. “Oh my goodness, not again. It is no wonder you are a big pig, Patsy. Look at all this chocolate.”
Patsy frowned. She was well and truly rumbled. What could happen now? To her horror, Patsy watched helplessly whilst Felicity marched around the pigsty, grabbing Patsy’s precious chocolate. Felicity looked sternly at Patsy. “No more of this stuff for you,” she said.
Into the bin went every last bit of Patsy’s beloved sweets. Patsy was horrified. What would she do now? It set her thinking. She went to bed that night, dreaming of what could be. The cockerels woke Patsy next morning and she was more excited than ever. Felicity returned and looked at her friend. What on earth could Patsy be thinking?
“I will tell you,” Patsy told her, “but you must promise to keep it a secret.”
Felicity vowed to tell no-one and the two friends to began hatch their plan. All day long they worked away on their little idea. Nobody knew what the two friends were doing, but the curious animals were eager to find out. The day ended, Patsy fell asleep in her pigsty and Felicity went to bed.
Morning came and the animals in Barnowl Farmyard gathered in the pigsty. “What are you doing, Patsy?” they demanded to know.
“I am about to…” she stammered. “That is, I want to…no I will be a chocolatier.”
A crowd of frowned faces glared at Patsy. “A WHAT?” they shouted. “What in heaven is a chocolatier?”
“Can’t you imagine?” Patsy said. “A chocolatier makes chocolate. Just the way I will.”
Everyone gasped. “Patsy, you are a pig,” shouted one cow. “You shouldn’t eat it, never mind make it.”
The young pig smiled. “My chocolate will be different. I will invent a new kind,” she told the animals. “That is what I am. An inventor. I will make the most delicious chocolate ever, with Canderella’s help, of course.”
“Who is Canderella?” Felicity asked.
“Canderella is a dear friend of mine,” Patsy told everyone. “The sugar plump fairy.
With her magical and powerful wings, the fairy possessed some of the greatest powers ever known. If there was a problem, Canderella would certainly help to fix it but first Patsy had to set work. “What I need,” Patsy told Felicity proudly, “is to make a list of ingredients for my chocolate. Now what goes into chocolate? Canderella must know.”
Indeed she did. At the mention of her name, Canderella appeared. “Did I hear you say chocolate? Oh please, can I have a nibble? Just a little. I simply adore it.”
Floating in front of Felicity and Patsy was Canderella. Her wings beat fast. It was the only way she could keep afloat. Chocolate excited Canderella as much as Patsy.
“I have not made it yet,” Patsy told her sternly. “Would you like to help?”
Canderella flew around frantically. “Why me dear, of course. And I know the perfect ingredients. First the cacao pods. For those we must travel to Mexico.”
“We?” Patsy shrieked. “Precisely who do you mean?”
The large fairy grinned. “You, me and Felicity,” she told Patsy.
Patsy gasped. “Canderella, don’t you know that flying pigs only exist in stories?”
“Well, let you be the first true flying pig,” Canderella said. “No time lose. Let us prepare for our journey.”
Felicity & Patsy stared at one another. This was truly an adventure. The two friends dashed away to prepare for their trip. After grabbing their belongings, Patsy and Felicity joined Canderella and sped away to Mexico.
The long trip began with Patsy more excited than words can say. All the way there her mind filled with thought of making this scrumptious new chocolate. Once there, it was straight to work. Patsy met many who introduced her the magical world of becoming a chocolatier.
She collected the finest beans ready to take back to the small farm she lived on. Patsy knew the cows would give her their rich milk. With Canderella’s magic sweetener, Patsy was certain her chocolate would be the tastiest.
“What will I call my chocolate?” she asked Felicity.
Felicity had no idea. Neither did Canderella. They each thought long and hard all the way home.
“Chocopops?” Canderella said suddenly.
“That sounds like a breakfast cereal, Canderella,” Patsy said, scowling.
“Patsy’s chocolate,” Felicity suggested. “You are making it.”
“Too boring,” Patsy sighed. “I want to name my chocolate something people will want to remember.”
The three friends continued to think of names for Patsy’s Chocolate.
“Chocolatier,” Felicity giggled.
“Boring,” Patsy said, yawning.
“Heaven,” Canderella suggested.
Felicity frowned. “You’re nuts, Canderella,” she shouted.
“That’s it!” Patsy screeched.
“What?” Canderella and Felicity asked together. “You can’t name chocolate ‘you’re nuts’!”
“No, no,” Patsy said. “Cocoanuts. Isn’t that a perfect name?”
Canderella and Felicity stared at each other. Patsy was right. Cocoanuts was a perfect name for her chocolate. They finally arrived home, very tired and went straight to bed. It had been a long day.
Next morning, Patsy woke and started straight to work. She set up her laboratory in a corner of the pigsty. Lots of ingredients lay in front of her. Milk from the cows, a little cocoa and her precious cacao pods.
Patsy smiled. With these ingredients, she could make all sorts of wonderful chocolates. Toffee filled, strawberry delights. Her mind was buzzing with ideas. She was finally ready to taste her chocolate. Patsy dipped her trotter into the pot and shuddered in horror. This chocolate was DISGUSTING! Patsy needed Canderella, fast!
Canderella appeared at once. “You called, Patsy,” she said.
“I certainly did, Canderella,” Patsy cried out. “This chocolate needs your help, please. Make it sweet.”
“Of course,” the fairy smiled. “That is my speciality. Stand back. This could get smoky.”
Canderella took a deep breath and with all her strength, she waved her wand. The shudder was felt all around the farm. Animal were curious when they watched the huge pot tip over and the brown mixture leaked everywhere.
“What have you done?” Patsy screeched. “Look at my chocolate.”
Canderellla smiled. “Do stop worrying, Patsy,” she said. “This is little mess. I will clean it up in no time.
“I am a pig, Canderella,” Patsy screeched. “I don’t care about the mess. But what about my chocolate?”
“You are a worry wart, Patsy,” Canderella sighed. “I will help you make more.”
Back to work Canderella and Patsy went with all of the delicious ingredients they had gathered and a few secrets here and there. It all blended together before another taste test.
Greedy Canderella scooped a huge handful of Patsy Cocoanuts Chocolate. Patsy waited patiently.
Canderella scowled. “My dear pig. What did you put into your chocolate?”
“You saw me make it,” Patsy groaned. “You know exactly what is in it.”
“Indeed,” Canderella said. “Wait here, I could have a solution.”
Canderella fluttered away. Patsy was puzzled. What could Canderella be doing?
Patsy’s flying friend returned with something mysterious. “Try this,” Canderella said.
It will make your chocolate delicious.”
“What is it?” Patsy asked.
“Sweetener,” Canderella said.
“Pardon?” Patsy said.
“This will help your chocolate taste delicious,” Canderella giggled.
Patsy took a deep breath and sprinkled the mysterious powder into her chocolate. She waited a while.
“What do I do now?” she asked Canderella.
“Give it a stir,” Canderella said.
Patsy obeyed the tooth fairy and stirred with all her strength. Felicity walked by. She could see Canderella and Patsy hard at work. “How is your chocolate, Patsy?” she asked.
“Try it for yourself, Felicity,” Patsy smiled.
Felicity took a large scoop of chocolate and put it to her lips. She didn’t know what to think.
“Well?” Patsy said, anxiously. “How does it taste?”
“Oh my goodness,” Felicity gasped.
“It isn’t that bad, is it, Felicity?” Patsy sighed.
“Give me more, please,” Felicity giggled. “This chocolate is delicious.”
“That is not the only chocolate I have made,” Patsy giggled. “Try this one, it’s my favourite.”
Felicity ate the sweet in one big gobble. “I can’t keep this to myself,” she said. “I will be back soon.”
She ran out into the farmyard. “Patsy has finished her chocolate, everyone. Who would like a taste?”
The farm workers queued around. Each one took a nibble of Patsy’s Chocolate. Felicity smiled. She could tell they liked it. Soon everyone demanded to taste it.
One man looked at the wrapper Felicity had designed to pack the chocolate. “Cocoanuts!” he laughed. “A strange name, but this chocolate is delightful.”
Felicity smiled proudly at Patsy. “Try Patsy’s Chocolate…” she said. “Make A Pig Of Yourself.”
They all did!
