Actress and Singer Clare Grogan Publishes Debut Children’s Novel Tallulah and the TeenStars

Actress and singer Clare Grogan, former lead singer of Altered Images and star of Gregory’s Girl, Red Dwarf and East Enders, today (9.10.08) publishes her debut children’s novel Tallulah and the TeenStars on Edinburgh-based independent publishing house Black & White.

Tallulah and the TeenStars tells the tale of Teresa Gordon, an ordinary girl living in an ordinary street, who dreams of being a pop star.

Of her first venture into fiction, for which she has coined the term ‘little chick lit’, Clare said, “I wanted to write a story that would be fun for girls to read and which they’d hopefully find inspiring too. And it was a sheer joy to write!

“Based very loosely on the early days of being in Altered Images, Tallulah and the TeenStars is a book for girls like I was as a teenager – girls who are more into Siouxsie and the Banshees than homework. It’s something that I’ve thought about doing for some time.

“I’ve always wanted to write a positive, inspiring book for young people. My own story was a bit of a fairy tale and I’d like everyone to know that, with a lot of hard work and dedication, dreams can come true – even if you sometimes feel like no-one understands you.

“If Tallulah has a message it’s that you should do your own thing and be true to yourself - that's what makes you cool, not the latest designer label. And that’s why Tallulah and the TeenStars is more about guitars, aspiration and attitude than gripes, issues and micro-skirts.'

As lead singer of Altered Images, Clare had huge success with a string of chart hits, including Happy Birthday, Don’t Talk To Me About Love and I Could be Happy. Based loosely on Clare’s own path to pop stardom, Tallulah and the TeenStars is the first title in a projected series of three books called The Adventures of Tallulah Gosh.

Tallulah and the TeenStars is published in paperback by Black & White at £4.99.
