Win an innovative new Gredi Box

An innovative new ingredients box for pupils has been launched, which will reenergise young people’s interest in cooking and help reduce waste for parents.

The Ingredients Box for Schools, affectionately nicknamed the ‘Gredi Box’, has been designed to help school children safely take the correct amounts of ingredients they need into cookery lessons, including eggs and fluids such as milk.

Its timely launch coincides with an announcement by the Government that cookery lessons are to be made compulsory in all secondary schools by 2011.

It's inventor Rik Hellewell, founder of professional oven-valeting service Ovenu, struck on the need after he found his daughters were struggling to carry their ingredients, as well as having to take inappropriate amounts out of the kitchen cupboards.

The microwave and dishwasher safe boxes comprise of a variety of compartments designed to hold a range of ingredients. A two inch deep container forms the top part of the box, which can store both loose ingredients and the completed dishes.

The lower container is split into six sections. Three larger compartments, which are two inches deep, feature a measuring scale, in millilitres, for measuring liquid ingredients. On the side of the box there is also a section for students to write their names.

An additional benefit is a specially-designed storage for eggs and liquid, plus the inclusion of food grade plastic bags, ideal for a ‘teaspoon’ measure.

The Gredi Box allows students to safely bring ingredients into school, as well as be able to take home their creations in the same strong, sealed container.

As well as keeping school bags free of broken eggs and spilt flour, with the Gredi Box parents can save money by eliminating the need for wasted food and the kids have a funky new gadget to help grow their enthusiasm for cookery.
